Ecuador registers 669 new infections and eight more deaths in the last 24 hours. This Wednesday, July 21, 2021, the country has 477,946 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 30,744 deaths due to the pandemic.
According to the latest report, so far this year, there are 5,917 deaths with positive diagnoses and 1,042 suspected of carrying the respiratory virus, totaling 6,959 deaths.
Regarding the hospital occupancy, of 2,643 beds to attend patients with COVID-19, 46% are occupied; in intermediate care, of 160 beds, 62% are full; and in the Intensive Care Units (ICU), with 745 beds, 80% are occupied.
The delta variant, present in El Oro, Pichincha and Cuenca raised the alert of the authorities due to the possible increase in patients who need hospitalization, as it is more aggressive.
