Ecuador registers job offers with lower salary and more workload

Experts believe that there are a large number of unemployed people willing to accept a job for a lower level of income or greater burden than they previously had.

The Social Employment Network (RSE) reported that job offers with salaries of less than USD1,000 per month grew in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year and even 2019. The greatest increase occurred in the Offers with salary ranges of USD 501 and 750.

Roberto Estrada, partner at Deloitte Consulting, explained that given the impact of the emergency, at this time there are a large number of unemployed people who may be willing to accept a job for a lower level of income or greater burden than they had. previously.

The Multi-Work platform detected that this year the applicants’ salary claim decreased on average by 10%, compared to that of 2019 and 2020. That is, if a person aspired to earn USD 600 two years ago, this year they intend to reach $ 540 or less than that amount.

El Comercio newspaper cited the case of María Cristina who accepted last February, for USD 400 a month, to be the supervisor of the systems department of an Internet provider company in Guayaquil. She has a master’s degree in business administration and a systems engineer, and had been without a formal job for more than a year.

On a platform, a position of winery manager is offered, it is required that she has her own mobilization, a university degree and five years of experience. The salary is USD 420. Another feature in the ads is the demand for graduates to perform multiple functions for companies, at low cost.

For example, one of the platforms offers a public relations job for people without a degree. The salary is $ 280 full time, which is not legal. Tasks range from social media management to client account management and require three years of experience.

For Estrada, this happens because the number of people available to work is much higher than the existing jobs.

In addition, the expert pointed out that in the last year companies have reconfigured jobs and even eliminated positions.

The unemployment rate stood at 6.3% last May, the worst figure since January this year, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses.
