More than 33 thousand complaints have been registered during the pandemic for violation of labor rights

In 2019, more than 8 thousand complaints were filed.

The Ministry of Labor has received 33,437 complaints of rights violations since March, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in the country.

Compared to all of 2019, when 8,767 complaints were registered, the figure is now almost four times more, with Quito and Guayaquil being the cities with the most cases.

The Deputy Minister of Labor, Sharian Moreno, indicated that most of the complaints that were presented at this time have to do with untimely dismissal that, according to the official, would actually be force majeure or a fortuitous event.

So far this year this State Portfolio has registered more than 680 thousand settlement records nationwide.

A line of workers who want to denounce their employers is observed daily on the outskirts of the Ministry of Labor.

Aída Campos was fired by her bosses after 13 years of work. According to Campos, they alleged force majeure and she did not receive any kind of payment for all the time she worked.

Xavier Jurado and his colleagues also filed a complaint. They worked in an amusement park that, due to the health emergency, stopped working.
