Ecuador’s Minister of Health considers that the Pro League should not be suspended, despite positive Covid cases

According to Zevallos there would still be no valid reason to interrupt the tournament.

Sports.- The Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, referred to the possibility of suspending the Ecuadorian soccer tournament, due to the cases of coronavirus that were confirmed in Independiente del Valle, after his Copa Libertadores match against Flamengo.

Given this, the Secretary of State denied this possibility and affirmed that in Ecuador all the corresponding protocols were applied before and after the matches to prevent the virus from spreading.

“After the match with Independiente del Valle we acted and retested all Flamengo and Independiente players and did the same in Guayaquil to comply with security protocols.”

Zevallos believes that the disease was not detected in time, since the virus takes about five days to manifest in the body and therefore, the country’s health authorities did not detect it in time.

“When the Flamengo players arrived in Ecuador they had negative PCR tests. We must believe that they came with properly performed PCR, but apparently they had the disease and were false negatives ”.
