65.4% of women victims of femicide in Ecuador had between 15 and 34 years, according to Ombudsman

There is no agreement between the Law to prevent and eradicate violence against women and the budget that should be allocated to trigger it.

Marianela Maldonado, defender of the people, deputy of Human Rights and Nature, reported that 65.4% of women victims of femicide in 2019 range between 15 and 34 years.

She explained that from the figures investigated by the Ecuadorian Center for the Promotion and Action of Women of the Defensoría it has been established that 106 women died violently in 2019, 62 of them were mothers and of this last number 83 children were left in Orphanhood.

She criticized that despite the existence of a Law to prevent and eradicate violence against women, it has not been enough to control the problem: “There is no agreement between the law and the resources to implement education programs.”

She stressed that with a budget you can educate children and adolescents in schools and homes, it will be the only way to eradicate violence.

“Not only gender violence is focused on femicides, currently it has been possible to establish gender parity with reforms to the democracy code where councilors have received discrimination, now there is a mandatory gender equality and parity” .

In this regard, she reiterated that this problem can be eradicated with education in schools.
